Hey, this is Adrien's voicemail. Sorry I couldn't get to you, leave a message. OR THE MORE EMBARRASSING EDITION: Chat Noir here! Or, well, not here. Crimes to solve, people to save, don't take it personally. Leave a meowssage! [ beep. ] ![]() |
text → action!
i've given enough of an air of mystery that that's what you think, huh?
and i'll take funny as a compliment
see you there
[ he's been tossing together some kind of chat noir get-up between texts, and now he's got ten minutes to finalize it. so.
( at some point plagg does wake up, completely confused, and adrien explains that he's playing chat noir without his help. plagg's response to that is a sleepy, incredulous: "that mask's white," and leave it to plagg to point out the single most issue adrien had with the outfit—the style of the mask's the same-ish, but it's white. why did he even have any issues with the outfit. it was ridiculous either way.
—it's white. )
needless to say, he's probably getting there at least five minutes later than rise is. but he's there, looking more like chat blanc than chat noir (except no ears or tail or bell), but y'know. he offers a tired wave. ]
Bonjour. Sorry for the wait.
[ this is his life. ]
action!
See you!
[She's much faster at getting ready and out the door than he is, but then again she doesn't have to throw together a costume cosplay to keep a secret identity. She's leaning against the building and patiently waiting, idly checking her CereVice and occasionally texting other people. She doesn't look up until she sees someone approaching from her peripheral vision and she smiles--
--before her eyes widen and she really gets a good look at him.]
You weren't kidding. You're really dedicated to this whole thing. [Not that she really thought he wouldn't be, but it's still something of a surprise. Still, she's not here to judge him so she promptly waves it off.] It's good to see you. [Don't think she didn't notice the slight dip in his energy though.] I didn't accidentally wake you up from a catnap and you're just not telling me, did I?

adrien plants his hands idly on his waist, slipping his thumbs into his pockets. well, that's one thing he can't do in the spandex. ]
I wouldn't be much of a puzzle if it just took a shopping trip to unmask me, right?
[ with that joke out of the way (mainly so he can convince himself this is Not Silly and get some kind of confident roll going. the success of this can be debated), he gives her a smile that he hopes is at least somewhat more reassuring than worn out.
is he that obvious... ]
But no worries, it's all good. I'm just... adjusting the schedule, somewhat. Cats, nocturnal, you know how it is. [ waving that away with a hand gesture. ] So, ready to go?
no subject
There's a lot of things we have to learn to adjust to in Cerealia, isn't there? I'm still getting used to everything like meeting magical cat boys or people knowing about Kanzeon. If my friends weren't already here when I showed up, I don't know if I really would be telling a lot of people these things. Kind of silly, isn't it?
no subject
he's pensive for a little bit, but then he says: ]
Maybe. There's a lot of new things here, but if you're used to keeping a secret that no one else's told yet, it's easy to keep doing that.
[ hm. ]
I'm a... [ okay, there's a hint of amusement underneath his words, because this description: ] ... magical cat boy, is that what you said? Heh, yeah, magical cat boy, and I'm shopping with you in a mask even though I trust you. So, I think I can say I get it.
[ it's pretty weird, honestly. being in a position where he feels like he can say a secret but not saying it anyway. and in a way he does kind of acknowledge it's silly, yet at the same time it still feels important to keep. ]
no subject
The problem with secrets is that if you keep them too long, they'll come out as something totally different. And maybe not even something you want. [Like a Shadow, for instance.]
You keep your identity a secret at home, too? [She mostly sounds curious now.] You must be really good at it. I bet a lot of people have seen you around.
no subject
"a lot of people have seen you around" is putting it kind of lightly, however, and the way he awkwardly chuckles says that she's pretty on point in that regard. ]
Getting good at ducking behind flower pots and disappearing without notice is more of a necessity thing. Someone's on my tail, so it's mostly to make sure no one I know gets caught up in the mess. Can't really afford slip-ups there.
[ does that sound bad. papillon has zero chill so it's accurate, but that kind of sounds bad. he pauses, then: ]
Is the reason you're saying stuff like that because of the things in the mirror back then? I don't really want to mention what happened there, but it's... probably good to be honest about what I'm thinking about, if it's about that.
no subject
Maybe a little bit about that. Would that really change whatever you're thinking about?
no subject
Nope. That's... kind of what I was thinking about, actually. [ ... ] I just feel like if I'm wondering about that, I should mention that I am.
[ he's a silly, somewhat earnest somewhat awkward boy. ]
no subject
Not being honest and hiding your true feelings can not only damage the people around you, but more importantly yourself. In the case of the Midnight Channel? It could get you killed. [Way to be dramatic, Rise.] ...have I ever told you who I am back in my world?
no subject
but, huh. honestly, this isn't the kind of conversation he'd expected to come out of rise kujikawa when he first met her, but. she's a lot more than what he thought she was, too. not in a bad way. if she doesn't mind continuing this talk, he won't say otherwise—he's admittedly curious and attentive; that's pretty clear as he looks at her.
he's raking through memories in his head, and— ]
... No? I don't think so.
[ this is usually where he'd ask her if she was President or something, but the topic is a little serious so he'll stick to that. ]
no subject
The doors to the store slide open to allow them entrance and she grabs a shopping basket even as she continues.]
I'm an idol. [And because she's run into enough people who've given her blank expressions, she continues quickly.] A pop singer. All of my fans know me as Risette. I was on hiatus last year but before that I was really busy with my music, acting, commercials, modeling...everything. The press even started stalking my grandma's tofu shop in Inaba when I moved in with her for a year.
Like I said. My friends call me Rise. [So that is to say that most of the world doesn't really know who she truly is.] Yu-senpai never made a big deal out of it, and later on nobody else did either. It was really nice having people I could share things with.
no subject
there's something like surprise in his expression, and recognition. it isn't due to being shocked that she's famous, but... he gets all of that, kind of, even without the superhero mask.
not that he can say that. ]
It is, huh? [ oh. that's a little too... ] It's good you found people like that. I've got enough of media with the mask on, so I can't really imagine how it's like being in the spotlight all the time, like... that. It sounded kinda... lonely?
no subject
It's also a little surprising that the word he chooses is "lonely."]
That's one way to describe it. I thought being an idol would maybe be better than how things were but things got complicated. I'm back from my break now, but I've changed some things. I don't want to make the same mistakes, so...I'm going to be honest with my fans and really make something with my music. If people don't like what they learn about me, then...at least I'll still have the people I really care about.
[She shakes her head as she picks up a dozen eggs, setting them in the basket.] Sorry, that wasn't what I brought you out here for.
no subject
That was for picking up some things... which we're doing. I don't mind listening in the meantime, heavy talk for a shopping trip or not. [ though it's more like "I don't mind shopping in the meantime", since her words are what he's paying more attention to. ] I'll say one last thing. I probably won't be able to see how that goes, different worlds and all, but I think they'll like what they get. I'm definitely cheering you on.
[ but! with that, he'll take her lead and drop it if she likes, with the following, as he peers into the basket: ]
Ooh, how eggciting.
[ forced puns with chat noir 101 ]
no subject
[But thennnn...] Chat Lite even comes with the same puns, huh? [She looks up from the eggs.] I think you're the only person I know besides Teddie who throws them into every day conversation.
